Is my practice private?

Yes. We value your privacy and your academic freedom, so every faculty member keeps their own account and their own data. Your rehearsals are encrypted before they're saved, and no one reads them. The key that unlocks them is held on the server that runs Greenroom so you can open your history on any device, which means this isn't end-to-end encryption, and someone with full system access could technically decrypt them. We don't, there's no tool for browsing them, and your institution has no access at all. The only way anyone else sees one of your conversations is if you choose to share it with the research study. Can my college see this?

No. Nothing about your practice is reported to your college. We did, however, build tools you can use to share your own professional growth on your own terms, like a Practice Record you can bring to an annual review or a promotion case, if and when you decide that serves you.

Is this the same AI my students use to cut corners?

It's a different use of the same kind of technology. Here it's your private practice partner, a stand-in for a student so you can rehearse, and your students never interact with it. You still do the real conversation yourself. Greenroom helps you prepare for it.

Why use this instead of a free chatbot?

A general chatbot can hold a basic role-play. What it can't do is stay in character when you get firm, remember a year of your practice, ground its coaching in cited research rather than plausible-sounding advice, or keep your rehearsals encrypted, with no tool for browsing them. Greenroom is free too, so price doesn't enter into it. What matters is whether the practice partner holds up.

Are you trying to replace faculty with AI?

The opposite. Greenroom exists to help you do the irreplaceably human part of teaching better. It coaches the practice; it never steps into the classroom.

What if I accidentally include a student's name?

Greenroom is built so you never need to share anything identifying. Write “a student,” “my colleague,” “my college,” and the practice partner steers you that way too. Scenarios you build are scrubbed for names, IDs, emails, and institutions before they're saved, and you see exactly what changed and confirm before anything is stored. Other text isn't checked for names, so please leave them out. Nothing you submit reaches the shared library without a human reviewing it first.

Is it really free?

Yes. You get the whole library, every practice partner, every difficulty setting, and full coaching, with nothing to pay and no payment method to enter. Greenroom is a research project now rather than a product. It's free, and it stays free for the length of the research.

What is the study, and am I in it?

You are not, unless you deliberately join. There is an optional study of whether rehearsing these conversations actually helps faculty. It isn't open yet; it opens once an institutional review board approves it. It lives on its own page with the full consent text. Using Greenroom does not enroll you in anything, joining takes a separate opt-in, and you can withdraw at any time, with no explanation needed. If you join, you answer five short questions at the start and again about twelve weeks later (or when the study period closes, if sooner), and we record how much you used the tool. Your rehearsal conversations are never part of it unless you choose to share one specific conversation. They're encrypted before they're saved, and no one reads them.
